Promising news from the AMC
(This notice was sent to Alan from AMC): Hi Alan I hope you are keeping well and coping with the Melbourne lockdown. Below is a communication which the AMC is providing to all candidates and Bridging course providers on the current COVID situation and the AMC’s priority to get the Clinical examination up and running as soon as possible. This communication is an update regarding the AMCs efforts to recommence the AMC clinical examinations as quickly as possible in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The recommencement of clinical examinations is a priority for the AMC. Any solution to recommence examinations must ensure they are delivered in a safe and responsible manner that meets both government health guidelines and legislative requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic. In accordance with Australian and international government health regulations, the AMC has postponed all clinical examinations and closed our Melbourne and Canberra offices to ensure the health and safety of all those we work with. While the vast majority of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and examination candidates have expressed their support and understanding of the AMC approach, many are also keen to progress with the clinical examination in order to meet requirements for Medical Board of Australian and AHPRA registration as a medical practitioner. This is important for IMGs as well as Australian health systems and communities. While the AMC is currently planning for the re-opening of the National Test Centre, the AMC is also currently developing solutions to deliver the clinical examination content through alternate delivery methods rather than the traditional OSCE format. The solution will continue to ensure the integrity, reliability, and validity of the clinical examination according to the AMCs organisational purpose. It will also support improved accessibility to the examination. The delivery of online & digital components of the current examination blueprint and content is being developed. Ongoing communication and engagement with examination candidates is a priority for the AMC. Examination candidates will be engaged and provided with further information as the AMC progresses toward a solution. It is expected the next stage of communications will occur toward the end of September 2020 regarding an implementation approach, further detail, and intended recommencement dates. Where possible, information will also be provided earlier. The safety of all examination participants and the community continues to be a paramount consideration for the AMC along with the recommencement of the clinical examination as soon as possible.
